The Dongguan Today Website launched on July 28 with congratulations and warm wishes from far and near. Nearly 200 guests attended the launching ceremony, including government officials, representatives from 28 towns and 4 districts, CEOs of well-known websites and foreigners living in Dongguan and Guangzhou.

As an international city, the economic and social development of Dongguan has received much concern from home and abroad. For the foreigners in Dongguan, the language barrier has been a big problem for them to get information they need. There is a great need for the establishment of such an English website, which will provide up-to-date local news, city guide, weather report, landscapes, etc. in Dongguan. As it is mentioned by Robert Goldberg, Consul General of American Consulate General in Guangzhou, the Dongguan Today English website would be a convenient channel for foreigners to know about the commercial, educational and also cultural opportunities in Dongguan. It is also a bridge linking the opening of Dongguan to the world for more exchange and cooperation.

In the launching ceremony, "Touch Dongguan—Guide for Journalists" brochures were presented to the representatives from recommended line and foreign media. As the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games approaches, "Touch Dongguan—Guide for Journalists" brochure is designed by the Information Office of Dongguan especially for the convenience of foreigners visiting or living in Dongguan. Within a few days, one can also get this brochure in foreign-related places for free.
